International Academic Conference "Adjustment of Economic Structure and Sustainable Development: Perspectives in Russia and China"

October 4-5th, 2012, Ekaterinburg, Russia

The Center for Economic Development Research (Wuhan University, Wuhan, Hubei, China) with the Institute for Industrial and Market Studies, Faculty of Economics (National Research University — Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia), and Graduate School of Economics and Management (Ural Federal Yeltzin University, Ekaterinburg, Russia) announce the call for papers for international academic conference entitled «Adjustment of Economic Structure and Sustainable Development: Perspectives in Russia and China» to be held on October 4-5, 2012 in Ekaterinburg.

This conference will be of a great help for researchers from various countries by organizing a discussion on the most urgent issues in the field of structural questions on economic growth and development in Russia and China, empirical research as well as the elaboration of various approaches to the methods of data collection and analysis. The aim of the conference is to take a step forward in the comparative empirical research of both economy for the further reduction of gaps in data and methodology, as well as to develop recommendations for policy makers.

We invite researchers to present their work on international benchmarking with the use of modern empirical research methodologies and expect to learn new lessons in this field for transition and developing countries. We welcome studies with a comparative perspective over time, between and within countries based on panel or cross-section empirical data.

The sub-themes include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • FDI and Financing from international organizations and Development in the Backward Regions

  • Human Resources and Sustainable Development: Regional Profiles

  • Adjustment of Foreign Trade Structure and Sustainable Development

  • Adjustment of Energy Structure and Sustainable Development

  • Reducing Regional Differences and Sustainable Development

  • Reshuffle of the Structure in «Old Industrial Regions» and Sustainable Development

  • Sustainable Policies in Russia and China

  • Adjustment of Economic Structure and Energy Reduction

  • Development Model and Evolution Path of Emerging Industries

  • The Challenges of Macroeconomic Imbalance and the Problems of Sustainable Growth Faced by Russia and China and Policy alternatives

  • Interregional Clusters and Expansion: Analysis from the Perspective of the Global Value-Added Link

  • The Influence of Intra-Product International Division of Labor on the Enhancing of Productivity in the LDCs

 

The working language of the Conference is English.

Invited key-note speakers are Prof. Julan Du (Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Prof. Wladimir Andreff (University Pantheon-Sorbonne, Paris, France).

Deadline for submission of extended abstracts: 30 April 2012

Acceptance of submitted abstracts: 01 June 2012

Submission of final papers: 01 September 2012

The application should include the following information:

  • the title of the proposed paper,

  • an extended abstract consists of 5000-7000 characters,

  • personal contact details (full name, job title, institutional affiliation, current position, postal address, contact phone, fax, and e-mail address).

 

Abstracts should be in RTF, Microsoft Word or PDF formats, should include three to five key words and JEL classification numbers, and indicate to which theme among above listed topics it is submitted.

There is no registration fee. Participants themselves will cover their own round-trip travel expenses and accommodation (excluding for key-note speakers). The Organizational committee provides help in arranging visas, accommodation and transportation from the airport to the hotel and back.

The best papers presented at the conference after peer-review will be published in a special issue of the International Journal of Economic Policy in Emerging Economies in early 2013. If participants want to have this chance, please, indicate «can be submitted to IJEPEE» in the application.

Participants are invited to submit abstracts of their research papers for presentation at the Conference. Submissions should be sent to the following email address: gsem.conf@ustu.ru with a title «Russia-China Conference». Authors of papers selected for the conference should register as conference participants and submit their full-text papers (in Microsoft Word, RTF or PDF) for publication on the Conference web-site by September 01, 2012.

The preliminary time schedule for the conference is as follows:

Oct. 3rd, participants arrive at Ekaterinburg, check in the hotel (to be decided)

Oct. 04-05th, a roundtable conference will be held for two days

Oct. 05th, EACES workshop.

Oct. 5th, a tour around the City of Ekaterinburg.

Oct. 6th, participants leave.
